Current Study: Adult Depression

When symptoms persist, there may be more you can do.

If feelings such as depressed mood or lack of energy are keeping you from the things that matter to you, you may be eligible for this clinical research study. It's evaluating an investigational drug designed to work with antidepressants, to see if it can help address unresolved symptoms of depression.

Whether or not you are currently taking an antidepressant, you may be eligible to participate.

Moving Treatment Options for Depression FORWARD!

The FORWARD Studies are evaluating an investigational drug to see if it may help improve unresolved symptoms of depression. The investigational drug is a tablet that dissolves under the tongue, and is designed to address unresolved symptoms of depression in a way that is different from currently approved medications.

You may be eligible to participate in this research study if you:
  • Are 18 to 70 years of age
  • Have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder
  • Are currently experiencing a depressive episode

Study Participation and Treatment

Study participants will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to also receive either the investigational drug or placebo (an inactive substance). Both the investigational drug and placebo are designed to be:
  • Taken once a day (usually around bedtime).
  • Placed under the tongue until dissolved.

Because there is the possibility of receiving placebo, and to properly evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational drug, all study participants will also receive an antidepressant medication (SSRI, SNRI, or bupropion) that is currently used to treat depression throughout their participation.
